Well done to those of you who won some lovely prizes in the raffle. We would like
to say thank you to NBN, a company for whom one of our parents works, for kindly
donating prizes for you all to win, this was very much appreciated. Also a big thank
you to those of you who bought tickets for the raffle and the Pre-School play too.
We raised a lovely amount of money that has helped us re-develop the Pre-School
room book corner with some lovely new furniture.

Reminder

session. Can we just remind you to leave an emergency contact number each day
and stress that it is equally important that you sign your child out when you leave
as these are the records we use in the event of a fire or emergency evacuation.

School Club

You may already be aware that we have to say goodbye to our school club children
throughout the coming term. Due to a rise in Pre-School numbers we unfortunately have
to stop running our school clubs. We have looked into various ways in which we could
continue this. Finding other premises to rent has been unsuccessful and although we
are pressing ahead with a planning application to extend our current premises, planning
permission is taking much longer than expected. We hope that in the future we will
fi nally have planning permission granted and revisit this again. This has been a very hard decision to make and we will be very sad to see the children go. They have all been a lovely group to look after and we wish them all the very best for the future.

Staff Changes

In preparation for Julia going on maternity leave in Mid February we have recruited
a new member of the team. Abi has now joined the Bees and will take over Julia‛s
key group. Abi has previous nursery experience and we are happy to welcome her to
Bumblebees. Jodie has also moved into the pre-school to help with her NVQ2 training.

First Aid Course

Bumblebees is having an in-house paediatric first aid course on Saturday 9th and 16th January (9am – 4pm) we are welcoming any parent who wish to join us for this course. To help fund raise for Children in Need we will be having a Teddy Bears Picnic on Friday 20th November. If your child attends on this day please bring along their favourite bear to join in with the fun and games. Just a quick reminder that the Nursery photographer will be with us on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th November to take some lovely photographs of the children, please remember to dress your child in something bright and colourful.

No Shoe Policy

Please can we remind you that Bumblebees operates a 'No Shoe Policy' where we require the children to change into slippers when they arrive.

As you change your childs footwear please can you place their outdoor shoes straight into their bag as they should not require these for the rest of the day as they wear their wellies in the garden. As you can imagine we have lots of slippers/wellies/ shoes here throughout the day so this should make it more manageable and also save you having to search for shoes when you arrive to collect your child.

We also ask for you to take all of your childs belongings home as their session finishes, so they are kept safe for their next session.

Christmas Raffle

As Christmas will be upon us before we know it we have attached raffl e tickets for you to have the chance to win some goodies in our Christmas raffle!

These tickets are 25p per ticket or £1 per strip, with the proceeds going towards new equipment for the nursery. You are more than welcome to sell these to friends, family and colleagues.

A huge thank you to Ruths mum who came into the Pre School and gave a lovely talk all about being a doctor. All the children loved this and we really appreciated the talk. Nursery Photos

Its that time of year again when Gavin will be returning to take the Christmas pictures. He will be here on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th November. If your child does not attend on these days and you would like to have a picture taken, further details of the drop in session for this will be posted on the front door nearer the time. Siblings are also welcome for this. Please remember to dress your child in something bright and colourful!

Food

Bumblebees work really hard on ensuring throughout the day the children have a varied diet. Please can we ask all parents not to bring in food from home for your children. This causes a problem with risk assessing the food as we do have a number of children with allergies and it poses a huge risk to their health. This is something that we really need your co-operation with. On a separate issue, although we welcome you to bring in cakes for your childrens birthdays, please can we specify that all cakes are shop bought so again we can check ingredients and also this will comply with our food safety requirements.

Annual Fee Increase

Every August we assess our fee structure and put forward an annual increase to be implemented effective from the new billing period, September to December. This August, as a result of the current economic climate, we decided to defer the increase due in September. Annual fee increases go towards covering yearly infl ations and staff wages, the latter being affected this year by not having our annual increase. Subsequently we will re-visit the fee structure again in December with any change being implemented from January 2010. We will of course keep everyone fully informed.

We recently lost Sam and Deanne from the Bees Room but we are pleased to announce that we have now appointed the new Room Leader, Sam Nourse, whom most of you will already know from the Caterpillar room. Carly who has recently been working in the Ladybird room has also joined the bees team as the Deputy Room Leader, supporting Sam and the rest of their team.

Early Drop Offs

We now have a number of children doing the early drop off session at 7.30am. Due to this increase
we will now have all children who have booked this session in the Bee‛s room (2 -3 year olds). If you
have booked this session please drop your children into this room with the early morning staff. As
a result, all children starting at 8am will not be able to go into this room until just before 8am. As a
reminder you are welcome into the building but please be aware that staff need to prepare for the
day before they start with your children at 8am.

Christmas Holidays

As you are all aware we close the nursery over the Christmas period. We will be open fully until Wednesday 23rd December.

We are considering having a drop off session on Thursday 24th December (Christmas Eve) between 8am-1pm.

This will be a pre-bookable session and spaces will be limited please could you indicate on the bottom of the newsletter if this is something that you would be interested in.

This session will be open to all. The Nursery will re-open on Monday 4th January 2010.

If you require childcare throughout this period, please speak to Faye or Gemma who may be able to arrange a member of staff to babysit.

Children Moving Rooms

We have had lots of children progressing to the next age group within the nursery. We do invite parents in for a settle session in the new room. Food Update

Further to us looking into changing the contents of our meals we are still undecided upon our decision. To change to organic would be problematic as we believe by buying local fresh products and preparing on site our food is of a high standard so this is a decision not to be taken without consultation.

We do still have our fruit and vegetables supplied by a local fresh supplier and we are looking to change our milk to organic. Again, if you have any suggestions or comments on this subject please see

Red Nose Day

We will be holding Fun and Games on Friday 13th March to raise funds for Comic Relief.
If your child attends that day they can join us in wearing red. ideally head to toe!!!

Slippers

Please can everyone remember to change their children‛s footwear to their slippers at the start of the session. It would also be helpful if you could place their footwear straight into their bag as shoes are not needed during the day.

The children wear slippers indoors and Wellies outdoors. You may need to check if your child needs either of these. Just be warned that last year some parents found it difficult to buy slippers in the warmer months so you may want to think about getting the next size up soon!!!

New Menus

Following a suggestion from one of our parents to go organic we are currently doing some research into the ingredients and contents in all our meals. Although at present it is not feasible to go completely organic due to the availability and costs we are looking into alternatives. More information on this will follow in the next newsletter. Main Garden

You may have noticed that the main garden grass area is fenced off. Unfortunately the new drainage system that has been put in because of our previous problems with flooding is not working and as a result we have a flooded garden.

Acer Landscaping the contractors are trying to solve the issue and have to return in the dry weather to take up the grass again and investigate the problem. Hopefully the grass will be back in action soon and the whole garden can will be in full use again.

Sensory Garden

Last month we mentioned Maggie had applied for a grant to develop part of the garden into a sensory area. Maggie has managed to secure this for us and work has been carried out by some of the team recently so the garden is now up and running.

Well done to Maggie and a big thank you to those of the team that helped out, as well as Gemma‛s Mum and Dad and Carly‛s Mum!. Everyone has done a great job and I‛m sure all the children will benefit from this new area.

Country of the Month

Gavin, our regular photographer will be in the Nursery on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th November. He takes fantastic photos and requests that the children are dressed in bright, colourful clothing. After the photos are taken you will receive proofs of the pictures. You need to return these by the date stated when you receive them in order for them to be processed before Christmas. If your child does not attend on either of these days we will have an open session for you to bring your child along to. Details of this will be given closer to the time.

On a final note, as you are all aware the arrival of Gemma and Jamies baby is imminent (due date 3rd Nov). This means that Gemma will not be around quite so much in the lead up to the birth and will be taking time off after the baby is born.

Whilst Gemma is on maternity leave Jo Small will take on a more active managerial role to support Faye so please see Faye or Jo with any queries etc. In this time Maggie, who is the deputy upstairs will take on the room leader role of the babies.

Garden

Children in need

For Children in Need this year we will be having a p.j day!!! On Friday 14th Nov all children and staff will need to wear their pyjamas and donate a small amount of cash to the charity. You can also pay £1 to take part in the guess the bear scratch card which will be available in the week leading up to the event. We will also have activities on the day.

Fawn and Cody are both now proud parents of Owen Anthony Obrien. Owen arrived on 21st September 2008, weighing 8lb. Fawn and Owen are both doing well. We are all looking forward to meeting Owen and anticipating Fawns return in May 2009.

On September 12th we will be losing Danielle from the Bees Room. Danielle will be leaving us to go onto a new challenge where she will becoming a Home Help, We Wish Danielle all the best in her new career. We have also said a big welcome to Katie in the Pre-school and Emma in the Bees Room, both of whom will be training towards there NVQ with us. They have settled into their new roles very well.

Christmas Shut Down

Childrens Belongings

We are still having lots of items of clothes without names in and unfortunately sometimes these go missing or end up in our spare clothes box, and even taken to the charity shop. The staff do their best to ensure belongings go home with the correct child but this does not always happen. We are willing to look into companies who provide name labels. Please speak to your room leader if you are interested in this. We can not be held responsible for any items of clothing that are not named.

Contact Books

We will be returning to using daily exchange books in the Bees Room and the format of the babies books will change. Please can you indicate on the form attached whether you wish to receive a book and if so, what information you would like to have included in this so we can look at new formats for the daily exchange books. We are still undecided as to what to do for the pre-school daily information exchange so can these parents also write down their views and we can take these into consideration to help make our decision. Summer Fayre Update

Bumblebees will be celebrating its 2nd birthday on Thursday 4th September so for the children attending on that day we will have fun and games (and birthday cake!!!). The nursery has grown massively due to all of the support from the staff and the parents so another big thank you to everybody for helping us get to where we are today.

Its a busy month in Pre School. We have our end of year trip on the 16th July to Pennywell Farm. A reminder will be sent out soon about what your child will need to bring on the day. Please can you ensure all permission slips are returned a.s.a.p. Pre School Graduation is taking place on Friday 18th July for all the children who will be leaving us to go onto school. Parents are welcome to attend from 2.45pm to see their child graduate. We shall be having a party beforehand so all Pre school children can wear their party clothes. End of term is on Monday 21st July.

Upstairs Parents

Following some recent training, Nikki and Sam are putting a project together to develop Heuristic play opportunities for the children upstairs. We are in the process of collecting items for the Heuristic play bags. If anyone can help us with our collection it will be gratefully appreciated. Things we are collecting:
Empty baby formula tins, empty syrup tins, empty biscuit or cake tins, empty whisky tins, empty Pringle or Smarties tubes, fir cones, shells, corks, keys, shoe boxes, ribbons and wooden curtain rings

Staff July 2008

This month we say a good luck and farewell to Fawn who will be starting her maternity leave on the 18th July. We wish Fawn all the best while she is on maternity leave and look forward to welcoming her back next year.

Just to keep you all updated, Jamie and I are expecting our first baby in November. During this period I shall be taking a short break and will be back in the New Year. During my leave Faye and Jo will always be around and Jamie is also happy to help with anything.

Summer Fayre

We will be holding our Summer Fayre between 11am-3pm on 19th July.
During this time there will be fun and games, a BBQ, bouncy castle, Raffle, and lots more !!!

Everyone is welcome….please bring family and friends!!!

Please find attached some raffle tickets, we would be really grateful if you can sell these to
family and friends. £1.00 per strip if you can return all sold or unsold tickets by 14th July 08.
We will be collecting various things in the weeks leading up to the summer fayre for our
tombola and ‘catch a bottle‛ game etc so donations will be very welcome. A sign will be on the
front door to indicate what we are collecting and there will be a box in the front entrance
for any donations.

Pre-school Parents Evening

Thank you to those of you who attended the recent parents evening for the Pre-school
room, we have had great feedback from you. We sent out small questionnaires and those
of you who did not attend have expressed great interest in making appointments with
the Key Workers. We were not expecting such a great response to this and feel it is not
feasible to hold so many individual meetings so we will be holding another parents evening in the new term (September). If you have anything you wish to discuss in the mean time please make your child‛s Key worker aware of this.

For those of you with children going to School in September we will discuss their transfer documents with you closer to the time.

Please can everyone remember to leave the green gates that lead to the school playground clear as this is their emergency services access and the school own the right to this area.

Computers for Schools

Many thanks to you all for helping us collect these vouchers. Tesco have now stopped and Sainsbury‛s will be in the next week. We shall be counting these soon and all the staff are looking forward to ordering some new equipment.

As always we are welcome to suggestions and ideas to help develop and improve the
Nursery so if you have anything you wish to suggest or would like to see happening
please speak to Faye or Jo.

The photo sessions went very well and Gavin managed to get lots of lovely photos of the
children. If your child had their photo taken and you wish to place an order please can you return the order with payment by the date stated on the front door so that Gavin can process the orders and get them back to you ASAP.

Another reminder for you to write your contact number on the daily register as this is
what we use in an emergency, not just when your child is sick etc but in the event of a
fi re/emergency evacuation so it is extremely important that you do this when you register your child each day.

We have welcomed Jo into the Pre-school room recently as our new Lead Practitioner.
Jo has lots of experience in childcare and was previously Deputy Manager of a setting.
Jo has settled in very well and is proving to be a positive addition to the team.

Sun hats and cream

Thank you to everyone who has supplied their child with a sun hat and sun cream. Please
can we remind those of you who have not done so yet to bring in labelled hats and cream
(preferably ones that can stay here) for your child‛s own safety in the sun.

Spare Clothes

Thank you to everyone who returned bumblebees spare clothes but unfortunately we are in the same position again where we have run out which means children are having to play in dirty clothes as we have nothing left to put on them. Can you ensure you pack enough in your childs bag so they can get changed when wet, dirty etc. Remembering socks too!!!

If you use the safety gates leading to and from the upstairs area PLEASE ENSURE YOU CLOSE THEM PROPERLY. The gate needs to click into place to make sure it is locked. This is for all of the children’s safety, including your own.

We have been lucky to have some warm days recently and so have made the most of it by spending lots of time in the garden. Please can everyone provide their child with a labelled hat and sun lotion of factor 25+.

We are introducing 2 new policies throughout the nursery one of which is a no shoe policy, the other is a new signing in and out policy. We will expect everyone to support us with these changes and adhere to them. If you have a problem in doing so please speak to Faye or Jo.

CCTV System

We have now had CCTV fitted throughout the Nursery. Every room in the Nursery has a camera in it and this is connected to a monitor in the upstairs office. We are really pleased with the new system and it adds towards the safety and welfare of the children and staff.

Meet the Staff

Staff are recruited for their qualifications, professionalism and experience. We also have a rigid process to ensure they are fully Police checked and referenced. Our friendly and capable staff are the back bone of the organisation and are one of the main reasons parents will want to choose our nursery.

All staff members operate a key worker system. This gives each member of the team responsibility for just a few children. Each child in the key group has one special adult to relate to, which can make settling into the group much easier. The key worker maintains links with you, the parent or carer, through shared record keeping ensuring that all children are supported in reaching their full potential.

All staff are continually trained both on and off site to make sure they are delivering the very best quality care. Training includes First Aid, Health & Safety and Child Protection to name but a few.
